| Behavioral measures are used to assess cognitive function in the context of development and under the influence of pharmacological manipulations hypothesized to alter the circuitry that subserves the cognitive function of interest. For example, ongoing studies are evaluating the impact of chronic exposure to Δ9 THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, on the maturation of working memory function during adolescence. These studies, conducted in collaboration with Dr. Chris Verrico, are designed to identify potential mechanisms underlying the association between heavy cannabis use during early adolescence and the later development of schizophrenia. |
